I have heard back from the Dystel agency. My manuscript was read with "great interest" but unfortunately Ms. Brown will be unable to represent me.
I am currently looking for an agent for my first young adult book, Eyes of the Unknown. The book is the first in a series of three. I am a graduate of Brigham Young University, where I studied education and history. Drawing on this background, my novel provides a fresh reflection on the anxieties of adolescence, combined with a complex plot of how two varying factions believe the world should exist.
Even though this is my first novel that I'm attempting to have published, I have been writing all my life. All growing up, my parents instilled in me a great love for the written word and when I'm not reading, I'm writing.
This is no small feat with two young children who are constantly jostling for my attention. I sneak in an hour or two during nap time and then stay up writing into the wee-small hours of the morning. I'm already eager to complete this series and begin my four other young adult novels. The paranormal seems to be my niche but I would still like to finish a children's book that I began years ago.
So far the rejection letters have shown a favorable response to my book but my lack of publishing experience is a concern. I wrote extensively in college for my many history and English classes but unfortunately never ventured to have anything published. I'm confident that finding an agent is just a matter of time and that the right one is just around the corner.
